The television is part and parcel of many households. Therefore, watching television is a culture of today’s modern society. It is a favourite past-time of many people, cutting across the culture, creed, gender and age. I must admit that I too enjoy “sitting glued” to the TV as mum often laments. Since I watch TV whole day long, I don’t blame mum. However, whenever I watch my favourite TV programme she doesn’t complain. In fact, she often sits together to watch it, the National Geographic.
The National Geographic is a well-known documentary programme, focusing mainly on the ever-changing world, on Mother Earth and on nature and peoples and creatures that colour it with. Personally, I am often awed and amazed with them.
I like this programme because it is very educational. By watching it, I can travel, explore and discover the four corners of the world. I have trekked up the highest peak. I have dived down the deepest trenches. I have walked through the wilderness and be amongst the wild beasts, big and small. Thus, this programme has helped to expand my horizon and improve my knowledge and experience. I can proudly say I am no more a ‘frog in the well’.
I also enjoy watching the National Geographic because it is entertaining, interesting and stimulating. I never imagined that such an educational programme can be very enjoyable. I get a chance to enjoy the kaleidoscope of sights, sounds and colours of the world and its different peoples, all in the comfort of my own home.
In addition to that, this programme is of very high quality and it is produced by a team of experts, all are authorities in their own field of interest. The photographic footage is extremely breath-taking and inspiring. Besides, the narration is very accurate, informative, vivid and descriptive. Thus, I have never felt restless, distracted or bored watching this programme.
The National Geographic is my favourite programme as it has helped me to grow and mature. I have watched it since I was a seven-year-old. Now, I am more sensitive and aware of the world and Mother Earth. I learn to be more appreciative of Mother Earth and its beauty and wonders. I am more concern about the preservation and conservation of the world not only now but also for posterity. The National Geographic has converted me into a more responsible citizen of the world and a caretaker of Mother Earth.
It is a touching and heart-warming TV programme and I will not hesitate to recommend it to others so that they too have a chance to savour amazing moments and appreciate and care for the one and only world we live in.

Assignment 3 ; My dream home

Many people have their own dream home inside their minds. Dream homes contain some aspects that people have always wanted. Also, idealistic things can be included in the house. It could be a tall and big building in the middle of the city. Or, it could be a small house in the quiet countryside with no modern things included. I will describe my own dream home, including external appearance, location, and interior aspects.
My dream home looks like a building that has been never made before. It has the unique shape of a pile of white cubes, irregularly organized. Each cube contains one room, and a glass cylinder connects them. Also, the roof is made out of glass, which allows me to see the sky conveniently, without the necessity of going out to see it. Also, it would be a good substitute for light in the house. When I am not in the mood for watching the sky, or when the sky is dark, I could just press a button and the slide curtains could close off the window. The reason that I have made this original shaped building is that I don’t want a home that looks too dull or has a common shape. I always want to make something unique that separates me from the same kind of look. Therefore, I chose this unique kind of shape.
The location of my house would be near the silent beach. It is a very quiet place that allows me to enjoy nature’s beauty, and relax without a stressful and limited lifestyle. Furthermore, it is a perfect location to allow me to see the sunrise and sunset. The main reason that I made the location near the beach is that I love nature. Since I’ve been living inside a city, I’ve had only a few chances to go to the mountains, rivers, and beaches. That is why I want to Commune with nature more. Thus, I want to build my home near the beach and the mountains.
The interior is the most important of all. That’s why my house’s interior includes lots of things. First, I would make a multimedia room. The room includes a wide screen LCD TV, a projector, a fast-running computer, and a good audio system with lots of high quality speakers. With those components, I could enjoy lots of music videos, movies, TV programs, and lots of games with high technical quality. As I’m fond of both listening to and playing music, I would make myself a music room, including a piano, a stage for my personal orchestra and musical band, and lots of music CDs and records. I could sit back and enjoy the leisure moment of music. I would also include a gym and a swimming pool in the yard, in order to get regular exercise. Furthermore, I would raise a dog, because I never had chance to raise one in the home. I would get a personal butler too. Most importantly, all the things will be powered by solar energy. It is economical non-polluting, and is less expensive.
In conclusion, the main reason that I want to build this kind of home is because I want my home to have both nature’s qualities, and modern aspects. Like my imaginary home, including both nature and modern technology, I think that the freshness of nature and modern technology can blend together very well, and will have no risk of tilting to one side or the other too much. Thus, by blending one character into another, I think that it could make a better and more convenient life.
